Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Consultants in Vancouver
Furano Pacific Consulting is an electrical and mechanical engineering firm based in Vancouver, serving owners, developers, municipalities, institutions and insurers throughout British Columbia.
We are a small firm by design. The engineer who scopes your project is the engineer who does the work and seals the drawings.
What we do in British Columbia, and selected projects
Power system studies — arc flash, protection coordination, short circuit and load flow analysis to CSA Z462 and IEEE 1584.
Building systems design — fire alarm, lighting, power distribution and electrical service design under the CEC, the BC Building Code and, inside the city, the Vancouver Building By-law.
Utility interconnection — service connections, load additions and generation interconnection with BC Hydro.
EV charging infrastructure — load assessment, distribution design and utility coordination.
Forensic engineering and loss consulting for insurers, adjusters and counsel.
Selected BC projects
EV charging hubs at Metropolis at Metrotown, acting as owner's representative for over half a megawatt of charging load, including power logging and utility coordination.
Cooling and heat pump upgrades at a Vancouver Coastal Health facility, phased around continuous operation.
Electrical and mechanical restoration at a BC greenhouse operation, including power interconnection design, cable management and instrumentation.
Replacement cost evaluation for a district energy transfer station on Lulu Island, Richmond.
Areas served
Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, Coquitlam, North and West Vancouver, Delta, Langley and the Fraser Valley; Vancouver Island; the Okanagan, Kamloops and the Kootenays; and northern British Columbia.
How we work
We are a small firm by design. The engineer who scopes your project is the engineer who does the work and seals the drawings, which removes the layer where scope and intent usually get lost.
Studies are modelled in ETAP and EasyPower, and the model file goes to you with the report. A study you cannot update is a study you will pay for twice.
On power system studies we mobilize to site within about two weeks of award and issue the sealed report about four weeks after the field visit. Larger services with many distribution points run longer, and we say so before you commit rather than after.
Furano Pacific Consulting holds active professional licences in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, which matters for owners with sites in more than one province.
Common questions
Do you work in the City of Vancouver as well as the wider region? Yes. Inside the city, building work falls under the Vancouver Building By-law rather than the BC Building Code, and the differences are small in number and expensive to find late.
What size of project do you take? Both ends. We have acted as owner's representative on over half a megawatt of EV charging infrastructure at Metropolis at Metrotown, and we take single-panel service upgrades. Being small is what makes the short projects work.
Do you do forensic and insurance work? Yes — origin and cause investigation, damage assessment and repair-versus-replace opinions on electrical equipment, for insurers, adjusters and counsel.
How quickly can you get to site? For most Lower Mainland work, within about two weeks of award. Urgent loss investigations are handled faster; tell us the situation and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it.
